화장실 셀프 리모델링 6 DIY Bathroom Vanity Episode 3. Installation

드디어 화장실 싱크대 캐비넷 제작기의 마지막 편이다.

Finally, this is the last episode of the DIY Bathroom Vanity series.

예쁘게 페인트를 끝낸 캐비넷을 화장실로 들고와 설치를 위한 준비를 했다.

타일 바닥이 워낙 울퉁불퉁이라, 이리저리 레벨을 갖다대어가며 최대한 평평하게 맞추어야 했다. 

 

I set up the finished cabinet in the bathroom to check the level before installing it.

Since our tile floor is too wobbly, I had to make sure every corner of the cabinet sat leveled.

 

그래서 높이 조절이 가능한 다리를 설치하길 얼마나 잘했는지 모른다. 

 

This is why I'm so glad that I decided to install adjustable legs for the cabinet.

 

전에도 언급했던 내용이지만, 다리의 끝부분에 높이 조절하는 것이 달린게 아니라 다리 전체를 돌리는 거라 각각의 다리 네개 높이가 서로 달라도 이렇게 표시가 나지 않는다는 것 또한 장점이다.

 

Like I mentioned before, the legs adjust by twisting the whole leg not just the tip of it, so threading is not visible even though their height is setup all different.

어쨌든, 캐비넷의 레벨을 맞추고 세라믹 싱크대를 올려봤는데 문제가 생겼다.

사실 미리 예상은 했던 일이지만, 배수관이 이전의 싱크대에 맞게 맞춰진거라 새로운 싱크대와 연결이 잘 되지 않았다.

 

However, I had a problem with the plumbing after I leveled the cabinet and dry fit the sink on the top of it.

The original drain pipe didn't reach the pop up sink drain pipe - which I kind of expected might happen. 

 

억지로 당겨서 어떻게든 해보려고 했으나, 역부족이었다. 이전의 싱크대와 꽤 비슷한 크기에다가 비슷한 위치이나, 이전의 싱크대는 뒷벽에 바싹 붙어있었고, 새로운 싱크대는 뒤의 백스플래쉬보다 앞쪽으로 설치하도록 맞췄다. 그래도 백스플래쉬 두께가 뭐 얼마나 한다고... 배수관을 바짝 당겨서 설치하면 될 줄 알었는데 아니었나보다.

 

I tried to pull the pipe and force connect, but it didn't really work. The location of the new vanity top is not that different than old one. The old backsplash sat on top of the old vanity, but the new backsplash sits behind the new vanity. I thought it wouldn't make that big of a difference, but guess I was wrong.

 

그리하여 어쩔 수 없이 배수관을 통째로 잘라서 다시 설치하기로 했다.

 

I ended up cutting the old drain pipe. 

 

배수관은 일단 잘라만 놓고, 싱크대까지 설치한 후에 맞춰보고 다시 연결해야 했다.

그래서 캐비넷부터 일단 설치하기로 했다.

 

To do the right job, I decided to assemble the new drain pipe after installing the vanity top.

So I started to install the cabinet first.

 

캐비넷을 어떻게 고정시킬까 굉장히 고민을 많이 했었다. 왜냐하면 캐비넷이 닿는 뒷벽에 세로로 이어진 스터드가 전혀 없었기 때문이다. 

양 코너쪽에는 있었는데 거긴 캐비넷이 닿지를 않아 연결시킬 수가 없었다. 

하지만 다행스럽게도, 벽뒤에 수도관을 고정시키기 위해 설치해놓은 나무가 있다는 것을 미리 확인했던지라 그나마 거기에다가 캐비넷과 연결할 나사못을 박기로 결정한 것이다. 

그리하여 집에 쓰고 남은 브래킷을 이용해 캐비넷을 벽에다가 고정시켰다.

 

There was one minor problem with mounting the cabinet. There was no vertical stud that the cabinet could be mounted to.

There were two vertical studs at the corners but not where the cabinet leans on.

Fortunately, I already checked that there was one horizontally running stud, which I guessed was to support the water lines. So I could mount the cabinet to that one. 

I kind of worried that it wouldn't be mounted strong enough but it seemed fine. 

Anyway, I had to use a bracket to mount the cabinet because the wood panel at the back of the cabinet didn't reach to the stud.

 

싱크대를 캐비넷 위에 올리려고 생각해보니, 받쳐주는 나무의 두께가 너무 빈약한 것 같아? 양쪽에 하나씩 더해주기도 했다.

 

After mounting the cabinet, I added some wooden blocks to the sides just in case it's not enough to support the ceramic sink.

 

이렇게 캐비넷은 준비를 모두 시켜놨고, 싱크대를 설치하기 전에 미리 수도꼭지를 부착하기로 했다.

 

Before actually putting the vanity top on the cabinet, I wanted to install the faucet first to make the job easy.

 

수도꼭지는 홈디포에서 콜러 제품으로 구입했다.

이전에 아마존에서 구입한 모엔 제품을 사용하려고 했는데, 막상 싱크대에 대어보니 너무 90도 각도로 떨어져서 물줄기에 손을 닿기가 너무 멀 것 같았다. 그래서 바꾼 것이 위 콜러 루비콘 수도꼭지이다.

I bought a Kohler faucet from Home Depot.

I purchased a Moen one before, but I didn't like the 90 degree shape because it seemed like the water would run too close to the back of the sink. So I returned it for the Kohler Rubicon faucet instead.

 

설명서대로 조립을 하긴 했는데, 수도꼭지 밑부분에다가 플러머 퍼티를 붙이라고 적혀있었으나 나는 하지 않았다.

플러머 퍼티는 보통 팝업 드레인 아래에다가 붙이던데 이상했다;;;

 

I started working on the faucet according to the instructions, but it said to use plumber's putty not only for the pop up drain but also under the faucet, which I didn't think you had to do.

 

근데 나는 어차피 수도꼭지 둘레부분에다가 렉셀 실런트를 바를 생각이었기 때문에 굳이 플러머 퍼티는 필요 없을 것 같았다.

 

Since I was planning to apply Lexel sealant around the faucet, I decided to only use plumber's putty for the pop up drain.

 

렉셀을 한번 쓰기 시작하니 실리콘은 아에 사용할 생각도 안하게 된다.

 

I love Lexel sealant a thousand times more than the silicone.

 

그래서 싱크대를 캐비넷에 부착할 때도 렉셀을 사용하려했으나, 혹시 몰라 고객센터에 물어보니 부착하는 용도로는 사용하지 말라고 했다. 그래서 그냥 집에 남아있던 100프로 실리콘을 사용했다.

실리콘을 싱크대가 닿는 캐비넷 위쪽 단면에 충분히 짜서 발라주면 된다.

 

I also wanted to use Lexel to mount the ceramic top. I asked the customer center if I can do that, but they told me not to use the Lexel as an adhesive. So I had to use a 100% silicone instead.

 

그리고 싱크대를 위에다 올려서 최대한 꾹꾹 눌러주면 완성이다.

 

After applying the silicone on the top of the cabinet, I just placed the sink on it and pressed it down for a while.

 

팝업 드레인까지 설치한 뒤에는, 투명 렉셀로 한번더 마무리 해줬다.

 

I also applied Lexel around the pop up drain after installing it.

 

그렇게 싱크대까지 설치하고나서야 배수관을 다시 연결할 수 있었다.

홈디포에서 드레인 키트를 사와서 연결했는데 놀라울 정도로 너무 간단했다.

 

After all these steps, I could finally work on the drain pipe.

I purchased a drain pipe kit and loved how easy it was to install.

 

부엌 싱크대 배수관은 글루로 다 일일이 붙여서 연결했었는데 이번에는 궁금해서 키트를 사용해봤더니, 엄청 쉽고 간단했다. 

 

I glued every pipe piece for the kitchen sink, but this kit was very simple to work with.

깔끔하게 싹 바뀌어서 좋긴 하다.

 

It became nice and clean.

 

배수관을 다 연결한 뒤에는, 캐비넷 문 힌지도 설치하고 달아줬다.

 

After connecting the drain pipe, I attached the door hinges and hung it to the cabinet.

 

이건 Lowe's에서 산 캐비넷 문고리이다. 

 

These cabinet pulls are from Lowe's.

 

3/16 드릴빗으로 캐비넷 문에 구멍을 낸 뒤, 문고리를 부착했다.

 

I made a hole with a 3/16 inch drill bit, and mounted the pulls.

 

마지막으로 백스플래쉬와 싱크대가 만나는 지점에 렉셀을 바르는 작업으로 마무리를 했다.

 

Lastly, I applied Lexel where the backsplash and the sink meet.

 

렉셀이.. 진짜 바르기는 좀 까다로워도 성능이 너무 좋아서 사용할 수 밖에 없게 된다.

그래도 렉셀 바르는 실력이 꽤 좋아진 것 같기도 하다.

 

Lexel is a little tricky to handle, but I can't help but keep using it because it works so good. 

I feel like my Lexel applying skill has improved a little :)

 

이렇게하여... 드디어 화장실 캐비넷이 완성되었다!

벽 페인트랑 백스플래쉬 과정은 따로 포스팅하긴 할건데, 캐비넷 설치를 하면서 사진에 다 찍혀버렸다.. 더이상 비밀스럽지가 않네;;;

 

That's it! I finished the bathroom vanity.

I am going to post about the wall painting and backsplash process but the pictures almost show everything already.

 

어쨌든, 내가 만든 화장실 캐비넷이 너무 마음에 든다. 물론 화려하진 않아도 우리 화장실에 잘 어울리고, 깨끗한 것에 의의를 둔다. 그리고 캐비넷 밑에 청소가 가능하다는 것이... 가장 좋다.

 

Anyway, I love my DIY bathroom vanity. It's not fancy but it suits our bathroom very well. Additionally, what I love most is that I can clean under the vanity haha :>
