결벽증이 있는 나는, 식기세척기 사면서부터 걱정했던 것이 있다.
식기세척기를 이전에 사용해본 적이 없어서 어떻게 청소하는지가 의문이었다.
그러다 인터넷 검색을 통해 식기세척기 클리너가 따로 있다는 사실을 알게 되었다.
물론, 베이킹 소다와 식초로 청소하는 경우도 많이 있었지만, 일단 전용 클리너가 좀 더 궁금했다.
우리집 식기세척기는 메이테그니, 메이테그에서 따로 권하는 클리너가 있겠다 싶어 공식 홈페이지에 들어가봤다.
보니까 affresh라는 클리너를 명시하고 있었다.
메이택 웹사이트에서도 팔고 아마존에서도 팔길래, 일단 아마존에서 6개가 들어있는 한봉지를 사보았다.
I'm a super clean-freak. I have to clean every inch of everything in my house. So when I bought a dishwasher for the first time in my life, I was kind of worried how I would clean inside of it.
Because I've never used a dishwasher before and didn't even know how it worked.
So I was looking up how to clean a dishwasher and found out there was dishwasher cleaner.
I also realized many people use baking soda and vinegar, but I was more curious about the cleaner.
Since mine is Maytag, I went ahead to the Maytag website and checked if they sell their own cleaner.
They had affresh appliance cleaners including dishwasher cleaners.
They were available on Amazon too.
I decided to try affresh dishwasher cleaners and ordered them from Amazon because I use Amazon all the time.

I bought a 6 pack and not a 12 pack just in case I didn't like them.
봉지에 보면, 석회 자국과 미네랄이 쌓인 것을 씻겨내 준다고 적혀있다.
It says, the cleaner powers away limescale and mineral buildup on the package.
사용법은, 태블릿을 넣고 그냥 식기세척기를 돌려주면 된다.
식기들 없이 그냥 돌려도 되고, 식기들을 넣고 같이 해도 된단다.
그리고 식기 세척기 안이 많이 더러우면 두알을 넣어도 된다고 한다.
You can place one tablet in the dishwasher and run it.
You can either run it with dishes inside or not.
Two tablets are recommended if there is significant buildup.
솔직히 우리집 식기세척기는 전반적으로 아주 깨끗하다.
그럴 수 밖에 없는게, 구입해서 사용한지 얼마되지 않았기 때문이다^^;;
My dishwasher was pretty clean becasue I've had it for only a couple months.
그리고 어디서 본게 있어가지고, 식기세척기를 돌리고나면 항상 저기 필터 뚜껑을 열어 이물질이 끼어있는지 확인도 하고 빼준다.
Also, I try to keep it clean as much as possible even by checking the filter for any stuck food after every use.
근데 딱 한군데, 저기 문과 식기세척기 바닥이 만나는 곳에서 항상 하얗게 얼룩진 물들이 보였다.
However, I noticed one spot between the door and the bottom of the dishwasher was not clean.
I could see some white residue coming from there.
자세히 보이질 않아서 손으로 속을 긁어봤는데, 뭐가 계속 나왔다.
I tried to reach inside with my hand and tried to wipe it off because I couldn't see clearly just by looking at.
긁으면 긁을수록 더 많이 나왔다.
The more I wiped, the more crud kept coming out.
카메라를 들이대 자세히 보니, 저렇게 하얀 석회?인지 미네랄인지? 구석에 쌓여 붙어있었다.
아무래도 문이 닫히고 식기세척기가 돌아가면, 저기 고무 개스킷 아래로는 잘 씻기지가 않는 모양이었다.
I took a picture with the flash on and found white residue build up inside.
I guess it can't really wash under the rubber gasket once the door is closed.
어쨌든, 나는 아무런 식기 없이, 식기세척기 클리너를 1개만 세제 트레이에 넣고 노멀 사이클로 돌려봤다.
Anyway, I tried the cleaner hoping that would wash off the white residue.
I used one tablet without any dishes inside and ran a normal cycle.
사이클이 끝나고 확인해봤는데, 여전히 보이는 찌꺼기들..
물론, 하기 전보다 빌드업이 심해보이진 않았으나 결코 깨끗하다고 할 순 없었다.
결과에 만족하지 못한 나는, 한달 뒤에 다시 해보기로 했다.
After the cycle finished, I was disappointed. I could still see some crud inside.
It was better than before, but not completely clean.
Not satisfied at all, I tried again after a month.
이번엔 한알이 아닌, 두알로...
하나는 원래처럼 세제 트레이에 넣었고, 다른 한 알은 식기세척기 바닥부분에 놓고 노멀 사이클로 다시 돌렸다.
역시나 아무런 식기 없이 돌렸다.
That time, the build up at the same spot was worse than before, so I used 2 tablets.
I placed one in the detergent tray and the other in the bottom of the dishwasher.
I ran another normal cycle without any dishes like the first time.
세척이 끝난 뒤, 손가락으로 깊숙이 엄청 찔러서 긁어봤는데 생각보다 깨끗한 것 같았다.
After the cycle, I checked with my hand. I tried to scrape off as deep as possible and it was pretty good considering how dirty it was before.
근데 몇번을 막 긁어댔더니 저렇게 하얀 이물질들이 조금씩 흘러나왔다.
만약에 저기가 아니라, 눈에 잘 보이는 다른 곳에 석회 자국이나 미네랄 빌드업이 있었다면 그건 잘 씻겨내줬을까 궁금하다.
내가 깨끗하게 청소되길 바랬던 곳은 솔직히 문이 닫히면 잘 닿을 수 없는 곳이라 어쩔 수 없다고 생각한다면 그래도 어느정도 효과는 있는 것 같은데, 100프로 만족하진 않는다. 확실히 클리너가 저 구석에 모여있던 이물질들을 느슨하게 풀어는 주는 것 같은데 아에 내 시야에서 완전히 사라지게 해주지는 않는다.
아마 나같은 경우에는, 클리너로 세척 후에 저기는 별도로 칫솔같은 걸로 긁어내서 마무리해주는게 맞는 것 같다.
전용 클리너를 다 사용하고나면, 나도 베이킹 소다와 식초로 한번 시도해봐야겠다.
However, some white crud still came off as I scraped more.
I'm curious how the cleaner would perform if the limescale or mineral buildup was in a visible spot and not where I was dealing with.
I would say the cleaner worked 80% with 2 tablets considering the spot was kind of hard to reach easily once the door is closed. But I'm not satified 100%. I think the cleaner definitely loosened the buildup but didn't wash it away completely.
I guess I just have to wipe it seperately with something like a tooth brush after using the cleaner.
Anyway, now I want to try with a baking soda and vinegar combination once I use all the affresh cleaners.
