부엌에 새로 페인트를 하고 가장 걱정되었던 것이 바로 쓰레기통 뚜껑이 벽을 치는 문제였다.
After we finished painting our kitchen, I was concerned about the trash can hitting the wall.
이렇게 깨끗이 페인트를 해놨는데 쓰레기통이 자꾸 뒤로 밀리면서 스크래치를 낼 것이 분명했다.
물론 요즘에 캐비넷 안에다가 쓰레기통을 설치하는 경우도 많이 봤지만 개인적으로 비위생적인 것 같기도 했고, 우리는 작은 부엌이라 최대한 수납공간을 많이 가지고 있어야 했기에 그렇게 만들지 않았다.
Each time we use the trash can, it gets pushed towards to the freshly painted wall and will leave a scuff mark if it hits the wall.
I was thinking about having the trash can inside a cabinet, but I thought it would be kind of gross to put a trash can without a lid in there. I also didn't want to waste cabinet space just for a trash can since our kitchen is pretty small.
그 결과 쓰레기통이 부엌 어딘가에 위치하긴 해야하는데, 기존의 쓰레기통은 발로 밟아야 열리기 때문에 계속 사용하다보면 저절로 뒤로 밀리게 된다. 그래서 처음엔 센서가 달린 휴지통으로 지금 가지고 있는 쓰레기통도 좋은 건데 이걸 두고 새걸로 바꾸려니 돈이 좀 아까웠다.
As a result, I had to locate it somewhere in the kitchen. Our trash can is a regular one with a pedal, and it moves a little everytime we open it. I was thinking of buying a sensored one so we wouldn't have this problem, but it was kind of a waster to buy an additional trash can.
그렇게 한동안 벽을 치지 않도록 멀찌감치 떨어뜨려놓고 사용하다가, 인터넷에서 trash can wall spacer라는 걸 발견했다. 좋은 아이디어이긴 하나, etsy에서만 보였는데 가격이 꽤 비쌌다. 게다가 뒤에 공간을 많이 두다보니 쓰레기통이 너무 앞으로 튀어나오는 것도 맘에 들지 않았다. 안그래도 작은 부엌인데;;;
I started searching online for a solution and found a trash can wall spacer. It was actually a good idea, but I could only get it from Etsy and it was kind of pricey. Additionally, with the wall spacer, the trash can might stick out too much for our small kitchen.
그나마 많이 보이는 건, 투명 스티커같은 것이었는데 보통 문이 벽을 치는 걸 방지하기 위해 많이들 쓰는 것 같았다.
이게 그나마 괜찮아보여서 아마존 장바구니에 담아만 두고, 혹시 다른 대안책이 있는지 더 찾아보고 있었다.
Another item I found was a clear self-adhesive wall protector from Amazon. I think people usually use it for protecting the door knob from hitting the wall. I liked it but didn't want to buy it right away just in case I found something better.
그러다 하루는, 우리가 냉장고를 옮겨야해서 LL Flooring에 가서 가구 패드를 사왔다. 근데 알고보니 냉장고 다리 중에서 두개는 바퀴여서 패드를 붙일 수가 없었고 다른 두개에 붙여놓고 일단 옮겼는데 그걸 부착한 채로 두려니 높이가 안 맞아서 떼야했다.
After a few days, we bought 4 furniture mover pads from LL Flooring becasue we had to move our refrigerator to the kitchen. However, we couldn't use two of the pads because the refridgerator had 2 wheels and 2 adjusting legs.
So, we only used 2 pads for the 2 adjusting legs had to remove them right after the move because the fridge wasn't level.
이거 뭐 버리려니 아까워서 가만 생각해보다가... 우리 쓰레기통 뒤에다 붙이면 될 것 같다는 생각이 들었다.
The 2 pads we used were still in good condtion, but couldn't be stored for future use becasue the white protective film didn't re-attach to the back well. At that moment, I thought they might be good for our trash can to protect the wall.
아마존에서 사려고 했던 투명 스티커처럼 접착도 가능하고, 두께도 너무 두껍지도 않으면서 너무 얇지도 않은 것이 딱 적당했다. 가격도 $3.18로 아마존에서 파는 벽 보호 스티커보다도 저렴했다.
They could work just like the clear self-adhesive wall protector from Amazon and the thickness was perfect too. The best part was the mover pads were only $3.18, so they were cheaper than the wall protectors.
쓰레기통 뒷면 중 벽에 부딪히는 부분에 맞게 모양을 잘라 붙여줬다.
I just cut the pads into the shape that would fit behind the trash can and attached them.
아주 성공적이다.
물론 아마존에서 파는 벽 보호 스티커도 같은 방법이었겠지만, 개인적으로는 따로 돈 들이지 않고 해결책을 찾았다는 것에서 일단 대만족...^^
혹시 같은 문제로 골머리 앓고 있는 사람이 있다면 괜히 쓰레기통 자체를 바꾸지 말고 스티커를 붙이는 방식도 고려해보길 바란다.

I'm so glad that I came up with this idea instead of buying a new trash can.
