드디어 보일러를 교체했다.

 

Finally, we got our boiler replaced.

 

아침 7시 반에 직원들이 와서 기존의 보일러는 들어내고, 새로운 보일러와 물 탱크를 설치하였는데 거의 3시가 다되어서 작업이 끝났다. 

 

The boiler people came to our house to remove the old boiler, and install the new one with a hot water tank. They started at 7:30 in the morning and finished around 3 pm.

 

우리집 앞문으로는 도저히 큰 보일러와 사람들이 지나다니기 힘들 것 같아 뒷문을 활용하도록 해주었다. 

물론 부엌이 새거라..... 캐비넷이나 바닥에 스크래치 생길까봐 굉장히 불안하긴 했었다. 

그래도 이날 비와 눈이 섞여 왔던지라 바닥이 조금 더러워진 것 말고는 괜찮았다.

 

They had to use our back door because our front door was too narrow to pass through with the boiler.

I was a little concerned about having scratches or any damage to our new cabinets and floor while they moved the big stuff, but thankfully they were very careful. 

 

 

기존의 보일러가 꽤 컸던 걸로 기억하는데, 쪼개어버렸는가? 두세번정도 달리에 싣고는 왔다갔다하는 걸 지켜봤는데 생각보다 부피들이 작아보였다.

 

I thought our old boiler was pretty big but it looked like they broke it down into a few pieces so they could move them out easily.

 

 

어쨌든, 보일러를 들어내는 동안 새 보일러를 설치해주기로 한 팀들도 도착을 했다.

내가 한국사람이라 그런지 미국 사람들이 이름을 얘기하면 잘 외워지지가 않는다. 그래서 이름은 기억 안나지만 위 회사의 주인으로 보이는 분이 성격도 쿨하니 좋았다. 

 

While the old boiler was being removed, the install team arrived too. 

It's really difficult to memorize American names since I'm not really used to them. So I don't really remember the name of the person who looked like the onwer of the boiler company, but he was a really cool guy.

드디어 새로운 보일러가 모습을 드러냈다!

 

Finally, our new boiler showed up!!

 

짜잔~~~ 새로운 가스 보일러와 물탱크다. 

이전에 보일러가 자리를 너무 꽉 채우는 느낌이 나서 새로 들어오는 물탱크는 어디나 놓으려나 궁금했는데 자리 배치도 잘 해주셨다.

I was kind of curious how they would layout the boiler with the tank since our basement is not that spacious, but they did a really good job.

 

나름 보일러 교체 전에 검색을 좀 했었는데, Burnham과 Williamson이라는 브랜드가 많이 보여서 우리도 burnham으로 처음에는 할 수 있냐 물었지만 재고가 없어서 Crown으로 해야했다. 설치해주신 아저씨 말로는 Burnham에서 조금 더 싸게 만든게 Crown이란다. 

 

I actually searched about some boiler brands and figured out Burnham and Williamson were pretty popular. So we asked the company if we could get a Burnham boiler before but they were not in stock at that time so we didn't really have a choice, and had to go with Crown. According to them Crown is made by Burnham but it's cheaper.

 

이전 포스팅에서도 언급했지만 총 비용은 $9,900이 들었다. 

나름 긍정적으로 바라보자면, $10,000이 안넘어서 다행이라고 여기고 있다.

 

In my previous post I mentioned we were quoted $9,900 for the boiler replacement, and that's what the final price ended up being.

If I have to try to think positively, I am thankfull that it wasn't over $10,000.

 

보일러를 새로 교체 후, 화장실 싱크대의 물을 테스트 해봤다.

예전에는 싱크대 물을 가장 뜨겁게 틀어도 한 10초 정도? 아주 뜨거웠다가 약간 견딜만한 뜨거운 물로만 계속 나왔었다. 근데 이제는 가장 뜨겁게 틀어놓으면 화상을 입을 정도로 뜨겁다. 

게다가 우리는 겨울 되면서 샤워할 때 온수가 나오기까지 너무 오래 걸리기도 했고, 완전히 뜨겁게 돌려도 그렇게 뜨겁지가 않아서, 온도를 일부러 높여서 보일러가 작동되도록 해야 따뜻한 물을 얻을 수 있었는데, 지금은 그런 문제가 싹 사라졌다. 중간에서 살짝만 뜨거운 쪽으로 돌려도 물이 엄청 따뜻하다. 

 

After everything was set up, I tested our hot water in the bathroom.

Before our new heating system, I could get really hot water only for only 10 seconds when I ran it from the sink, even though I positioned the handle all the way to the hot side. But now if I run the hot water I can keep getting hot water and it's really really really hot.

Additionally, we had a problem with hot water in the shower since the winter started. We couldn't get hot enough water even though the handle was positioned all the way to the hot side, and we had to wait so long before the water even got hot enough to shower. So we had to run the boiler by raising the thermostat temperature higher than we needed it. But now all those problem are gone. 

 

보일러를 새로 바꿔서인지 아니면 물탱크를 따로 설치해서인지는 알 수가 없지만? 어쨌든 이번 기회에 제대로 온수 사용이 가능해서 좋다. 이제 몇십년은 우리집 보일러 걱정 할 필요 없겠지?

 

I'm really glad that now we can use hot water normally and don't really have to worry about the boiler for a long time.
