My Favorite Door Trim Paint - Sherwin Williams Duration

Currently, I'm working on the entire 2nd floor of my house. 

The ceiling, walls, and all the trim for the doors and windows are primed and ready for paint. 

Before I painted the wall, I decided to paint the trim first. I'm not sure which should be painted first, but I wanted to paint the trim more comfortably and not worry about the cutting out.

 

Here, I will show you some pictures of the pre primed trim.

 

Long ago, I had to take them out to work on the door jambs to install new doors. After finishing that, I reused the old ones and that's why they were pretty dirty and messy.

 

I sanded them down, patched some holes, and then primed with KILZ 2.

For the trim paint, I decided to use Sherwin Williams Duration again.

I think Duration semi-gloss is perfect for trim paint. It gives you a very smooth feeling and perfect shine after it dries.

I've used 'Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel' for cabinets before, but not for trim. So, I can't really compare which is better, but Emerald is supposed to be good for trim too. However, I wouldn't use Emerald just for trim since it is more expensive. Personally, Duration is perfect for doors and trim, so there is no reason I would pay $20 or more. But I can say Emerald is definitely worth it for painting cabinets. 

 

This is the first coat of paint.

I love the sheen of the semi-gloss. Semi-gloss is the hightest sheen for Duration.

 

I think Duration covers pretty well, but one coat is not enough for a strong stain.

So I always paint at least two coats. 

 

After the first coat, I waited 4 hours for the next coat. 

 

After 4 hours, I sanded all the trim lightly with 400 grit sanding paper and wiped the dust with a wet microfiber cloth. 

 

I then went ahead for the second coat(also final coat). 

They looked brighter and shinier. 

 

What a transformation!!

 

Thanks to Duration again, my door trim painting project was a success.

 

I'm planning use the same paint for the doors too. We will see how that comes out next time!
